In the summer of 2010 my Grampa was diagosed with ALS. A week and 1/2 before Christmas he passed away from complications of the disease. In looking ahead at 2011, I have made it my resolution to run a 5K each month of the year to raise money and awareness for the ALS Association. Every step of the way he is with me and every step of the way we are helping those that will receive the diagnosis this year and/or are currently living with the devastating disease that is ALS. Please donate if you are able by visiting the following link to the Community of Hope Fund page set up in Grampa Hudson's memory. You could donate a small amount each month or a large lump sum for the year, no amount is too small and you can do it when its most convenient for you! http://web.alsa.org/goto/hudsonshoofer

Long Island here we come!

Tomorrow is the big day! Back to the 5K swing of things after a very long break. Cal, Denis and Lauren will also be running and I think we're going to get just about the best weather possible for an end of July weeknight. Should be around 78 degrees and sunny w/ some clouds. We ferry over at 4:50pm and hang around until race time. After the run Camp Harborview is hosting a BBQ w/ "live music" (an 80's band should not count as live music!) And following the race Cal and I can breathe easy because we're off on Friday to head out for Ash's bach party!

Here's a clip of long island, the route takes us from the top of the fat part out to the very point of one end and back. Should be really beautiful views in any case!

I downloaded a bunch of new tunes to keep me amped for the duration of this run, its an amalgamation for sure but I'm pretty psyched about it!

The Lazy Song - Bruno Mars
Guilty Girls - Buffalo Tom
Smile - Uncle Kracker (shut up its a good song)
Kiss With a Fist - Florence & The Machine
Paris - Grace Potter & The Nocturnals
Get Some - Lykke Li
Trouble on the Way - Mona
Young Blood - Naked & Famous
Right There - Nicole Scherzinger (who needs to come up with an easier stage name)
S&M - Rhianna
Home - Simplified
Fell in Love With a Girl - White Stripes

Due to my lack of preparation for this race, my motto this go round is going to be a constant mental replay of:

In June, I came in at 34:22, my goal for this month is to come in at 34:21 or less. This number needs to improve for the August 5 Miler to be any sort of success. So wish me luck and look for photos and updates beginning of next week.

In addition to dedicating each race to the memory of Grandpa Hudson, I'd like also to dedicate this month's race to John Neugent a new friend through the ALS Association of MA, soon to be new father and currently braving an ALS diagnosis. His brave battle is humbling, his excitement to be a new dad is beautiful and he is yet another reason that I run tomorrow to raise funds for ALS. So please donate to the Community Fund by clicking the link on the right to help all ALS patients and support givers alike, no amount is too small!

Thank you!
