After an overnight with the nephews, a weekend in Nantucket, a weekend conference etc I am back in action. I will admit that my training efforts have been lackluster since my last race on February 12th.
That all changes today. I'll be back on the treadmill multiple times this week to get back in training mode for March 20th. Emily and Grant will be running with me and I have forewarned them of the hills so I need to incorporate some hill training in my runs over the next 2 weeks.
Also as of next Monday Fitcorp is running the Ultimate Slimdown program and I will be competing against my coworkers and lots of other people I don't know to win a free year long membership to the gym by losing the most. I enjoy healthy competition, can you tell?
So check over the next 2 weeks for training updates and race additions because I need to add some spring runs to the portfolio. If you have any suggestions they are welcome.

A 5K a month in 2011 ... running "with" Grampa, raising money & awareness for ALS with every step
In the summer of 2010 my Grampa was diagosed with ALS. A week and 1/2 before Christmas he passed away from complications of the disease. In looking ahead at 2011, I have made it my resolution to run a 5K each month of the year to raise money and awareness for the ALS Association. Every step of the way he is with me and every step of the way we are helping those that will receive the diagnosis this year and/or are currently living with the devastating disease that is ALS. Please donate if you are able by visiting the following link to the Community of Hope Fund page set up in Grampa Hudson's memory. You could donate a small amount each month or a large lump sum for the year, no amount is too small and you can do it when its most convenient for you! http://web.alsa.org/goto/hudsonshoofer

Victorious Valentine's Weekend
Saturday's race was a bit warmer than January but with a lot less sun! Lack of sunshine aside I clocked in at 33:26 a slight but victorious nonetheless improvement over January's time of 34:06!
Ash ran with me again this time around, I'd say we were cheerier this go round at 8am but I think this picture tells it all.
Lauren and Lesly from work came out as well to join the run. This is a little pre-run gem. Gosh those running tights are brutal haha.
We ran so hard this go round that we failed to take a post run photo to share but believe me it's probably best left unseen.
I got a new number for this run so that I can hopefully have 12 numbers at the end of this thing to motivate me to continue the running when I'm not doing so for ALS.
Now it's on to training for the March 20th South Boston St. Patrick's Day 5K to benefit the South Boston Boys and Girls Club. The new goal is to beat the 33:26 time. I ran this race last year and it was pouring rain, freezing cold and awful so I'm really just hoping for some modicum of improvement over any of those things haha.
As of today I have $215 dollars raised leaving me $4,785 to go, GULP! So if you haven't visited lately, check out the blog and check out the fund page and make your donation today.
Check back between now and March 20th for funny training stories and updates as I add new races for Spring 2011!

Damn You BPD and DPW
Well my February 5K plans were foiled last week when the Super Sunday 5K was cancelled due to road conditions and weather ... I'd like to point out that Saturday was one of the best days we have had! So instead of running I chipped my car out of the ice flow it had been sitting in since Tuesday, ran loads of errands and did my taxes ... so really it was a productive day non-run wise.
That aside it was postponed to this Sunday which I wouldn't be able to make because I'll be spending time with my 3 year old and 6 month old Valentines <3 Cole and Owen.
So last Sunday instead of being deterred by a race cancellation, a fairly intense hangover and icy walkways I suited up with my coworker Lauren and ran around the Charles River, about a 4 mile distance. It was rough going terrain wise but we did well on time and didn't have too many stops.
This week I'm back to gym training and Saturday morning I will once again wake up at the crack of dawn (ok fine around 7am) and run with the Greater Lowell Road Runners for their Saturday Fudgsicle 5K series in the hopes of beating my last time of 34:06.
Check back later this week for the race play list and then check back after the weekend for some great photos, hopefully a new personal record and updates on upcoming races.
